1. Scope & who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how Kangaruu ("Kangaruu," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use our website at kangaruu.com, our mobile and web applications, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). Kangaruu operates a digital freight platform connecting shippers and motor carriers.
By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information: name, email address, mobile phone number, password, company name, and role (shipper or carrier).
- Carrier information: DOT number, MC number, equipment type, operating authority, insurance details, and information returned by the FMCSA registry to verify your authority to haul loads.
- Shipper information: business name, addresses, commodity types, and load details.
- Payment information: billing address and payment method details, processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.
- Communications: messages you send us, support tickets, and feedback.
Information collected automatically
- Device & usage: IP address, device type, operating system, browser, pages visited, and interactions with the Services.
- Location: approximate location derived from IP or, with your permission, precise location from your mobile device for load visibility and matching.
- Cookies & similar technologies: used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure performance.
Information from third parties
- FMCSA and regulatory data: verification of DOT/MC numbers, operating authority, and safety ratings.
- Service providers: data from identity verification, fraud prevention, and analytics partners.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services — including matching shippers with carriers, posting and booking loads, and verifying operating authority.
- Process subscriptions and payments.
- Communicate with you about your account, transactions, and customer support.
- Send SMS notifications you have opted in to receive (see Section 4).
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
- Analyze usage to improve the Services and develop new features.
4. SMS & messaging
If you provide your mobile number and opt in, Kangaruu may send you SMS (text) messages related to your account and use of the Services. Messaging is delivered through our messaging provider, Twilio.
Types of messages
- Transactional: load alerts, bid notifications, booking confirmations, pickup/delivery status, payment confirmations, and shipment updates.
- Account & security: one-time passcodes, login alerts, password resets, and account notifications.
- Customer care: replies to support inquiries you initiate.
Opt-in
You opt in to SMS by entering your mobile number during account registration or in your account settings and affirmatively consenting to receive text messages. Consent to receive SMS is not a condition of purchase of any Kangaruu service.
Frequency & charges
Message frequency varies based on your activity. Message and data rates may apply. Check with your wireless carrier for details.
Opt-out & help
You can cancel SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message. After you send STOP, we will send you a confirmation message and stop sending SMS messages. You may resume messaging by texting START or updating your preferences in your account. For help, reply HELP or contact [email protected].
Supported carriers
Supported carriers include AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, Boost, Cricket, MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular, and most other U.S. wireless carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as our messaging provider (Twilio), is permitted. All of the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
6. Data retention
We retain information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations (including transportation and tax recordkeeping), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your rights & choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, or withdraw consent. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete.

You can manage most communication preferences (including SMS) directly in your account settings.
9. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the effective date. For material changes, we will provide additional notice (such as email or in-app notice).
